In Silent Hill, the border between reality and unreality is indistinct. It may be that the town itself has moved somewhere that is like another dimension, or it may be that this is all happening inside someone's dream. Could it be that the real world awaits beyond the collapsed roads?
— Silent Hill Guidebook

Buildings:

Alchemilla Hospital, also known as Alchemilla General Hospital, is a medical center in Silent Hill in Central Silent Hill located on Koontz Street. It is the oldest hospital in the town, according to the PAL manual for the first game.

Designs: Alchemilla Hospital is presented as an emergency department in Silent Hill, Silent Hill: Origins, Silent Hill: Homecoming, and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. The floor design remains relatively consistent throughout the series canon with variations occurring within Origins and Homecoming, including the introduction of an Operating Theater, presumably for instructional purposes, as well as relocating the storerooms that have been located near the restrooms across all three titles it appears in.

Common to all games are multiple operating rooms, nurse stations, intensive care units, and public restrooms. Also plentiful are patient rooms, though what these rooms contain changes to fit each game.

Andy's Books is a bookstore located on Koontz Street in the Central Silent Hill district of Silent Hill, found in front of Alchemilla Hospital.

The Artaud Theater is a tourist location within Central Silent Hill located on Koontz Street. The theater is home to numerous plays, musicals, and actors that want to make it big. It is quite large. It has some faulty wiring, but people still seem to work there. The theater also hosts many Shakespearean-style plays.

The Artaud Theater, like any other, has the same features that accommodate an actor or playwright and is capable of hosting many theatrical festivals. Many tourists, and also many citizens of the town, would come here to watch various styles and types of productions, which were both for children and adults, regardless of age. The Artaud Theater would offer many forms, utilizing speech, gesture, music, dance, and spectacle, combining the other performing arts, often as well as the visual arts, into a single artistic form. It improved strict definitions of tragedy and comedy as well as other forms like puppet theater (which included hand puppets, shadow plays, and marionette productions).

Plays were usually produced by a production team that commonly includes a scenic designer, lighting designer, costume designer, sound designer, a stage manager, and also a product manager.

Next to the stage is a small room, the Curtain Control Room, from where the stage manager controls various functions of the stage.

The back section of the Artaud Theater features dressing rooms, scenery workshops, storage rooms for costumes and other scenery pieces, the offices, and anything that covers the needs of a production team as well the need for a better organization of the whole theater. On the second floor are the catwalks where the lighting can be controlled or configured for each theatrical show.

The Artaud Theater also hosts various non-profit theater companies that produce their own seasons for the local people to enjoy, improving the relations of the theater's companies with the local populations of Silent Hill and probably Shepherd's Glen, and strengthening the peoples' interest for culture and artistic tradition.

Stage:

The stage is a designated space for the performance of theatrical productions. It serves as a space for actors or performers and a focal point for the members of the audience. Because of this, it serves as one of the most important aspects of the Artaud Theater. The stage is linked with parallel universes where Travis Grady manages to teleport to by touching a mirror or lifting the safety curtains.

Forest
The forest can be found when Travis lifts the safety curtain and touches a mirror while the stage is in its forest theme.

Library
The library is filled with notes and book pages. It can be accessed by lifting the safety curtain and entering the Otherworld when the stage is in its library theme.

Owl Cave
In order to reach the Caliban, the player must solve various puzzles in Artaud Theater to access the cave set. One of the notes found mentions this set is based upon a cave in the Silent Hill area called Owl Cave.

The Baldwin Mansion was the home of Ernest Baldwin and his late daughter Amy.

On Ernest's birthday, Amy accidentally fell out of a window in the mansion's attic, leaving Ernest saddened and alone. Ten years later, the mansion seems rather empty, except for Ernest's and Amy's ghosts, and a few monsters. It is implied that Ernest may have killed himself in grief, or became a victim of a monster, at some point - the body in front of the mansion may be his.

It is unknown what the current condition of the mansion is. It is implied that the mansion is off-limits as the perimeter has high walls with barbed wire and a message can be found on a wall "KEEP OUT OF HAUNTED MANSION". Amy's room appeared to be untouched, implying no one has else has lived in it since, possibly due to claims of the mansion being haunted.

It is located right beside Blue Creek Apartments, allowing Maria to exit the mansion and immediately enter the Blue Creek Apartments.

Blue Creek Apartments is a small apartment building in Silent Hill 2, built next to the Wood Side Apartments. The fire escape of the Wood Side Apartments was knocked down to make room for the Blue Creek Apartments. Access to the third floor is completely blocked off.

Access to these apartments can be found through the fire escape of the Wood Side Apartments and also in a small area located behind the Baldwin Mansion. The Blue Creek Apartments also exit to an alleyway that leads directly to Rosewater Park.

There are strange noises and sounds in the Blue Creek Apartments such as a doorknob rattling by itself (Room 208), as well as someone running back and forth. In Room 209, there is a whisper that says something along the lines of "See my dead wife, come home to do some laundry..."

Brookhaven Hospital is a mental institution located in the South Vale area of Silent Hill.

It has appeared in Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3 and Silent Hill: The Arcade, as well as the Silent Hill film. However, is it always seen in the Fog World or Otherworld, in which it is primarily abandoned and full of monsters. Nurses are frequent monsters here.

Alchemilla Hospital is another health care institution intended more for physical medicine and operations, while Brookhaven and Cedar Grove Sanitarium are intended more for mental health.

Symbolism: Brookhaven Hospital seems to symbolize the fears of those who are both physically and mentally ill, and possibly poor healthcare or medical malpractice. In Silent Hill, hospitals are used to exemplify fears of sickness, suffering, and death, and Brookhaven is no exception.

In Brookhaven, it seems doctors don't really care about their patients' health, and instead, want to profit off them as much as possible. Although Mary Shepherd-Sunderland didn't actually go to Brookhaven, she said, "It'd be easier if they'd just kill me. But I guess the hospital is making a nice profit off me, they want to keep me alive..." meaning that doctors profiting from patients is a theme of the game.

The poor quality of various patients' care is made particularly evident throughout the series. It is implied some patients are mistreated, abused and neglected by doctors and nurses with barbaric, cruel, inhumane, archaic and old-fashioned practices, possibly against their own will and consent.

Mentally ill people are locked in dark and claustrophobic padded cells for hours; in at least one instance, it is implied it once caused someone to bash their head against a wall until it was left completely covered in blood.

Cedar Grove Sanitarium, introduced in Silent Hill: Origins and located in Central Silent Hill, is a mental health institution for the mentally unstable. Both dates of the founding and construction are unknown, but this psychiatric hospital is active in the 20th century. The establishment is a mixed-gender facility, though the male and female populations are housed separately.

Cedar Grove is a sprawling facility located on the extreme eastern edge of southern Central Silent Hill, occupying a large lot at the intersection of Acadia Road and Midway Avenue. A tall brick wall surrounds the lot, with only a single (known) portcullis and gate, which has the words Cedar Grove Sanitarium positioned above it, as its main point of entry. A single concrete drive snakes uphill, terminating in a large lot positioned before the main entrance to the sanitarium.

Consisting of two floors and a basement, the sanitarium's first floor appears to be meant for those patients who are mentally ill. The first floor's west wing is where the male population is housed, while the east wing houses the female population. Each wing has a sick ward, a pair of non-specialized wards, dorms, an infirmary and a section designated as either Male or Female Seclusion. A pair of solarium (or sunrooms), a dining hall, cloakroom, day room and a room for patient belongings can also be found. Like all structures encountered in Silent Hill, most of the locks have seized or the doors have jammed, or they've simply become blocked.

The second floor appears to be where those who are contagiously ill are kept. Many of the rooms are used to care for either specific diseases, such as tuberculosis or polio, or are used as a means to keep contagious patients separate from the general population, depending on the severity of the contagion. As with the first floor, the second floor is divided in half, with the west wing housing the male population, while the east wing houses the female population.

The basement is used primarily as storage space. Rooms are spread across the basement and are connected by a series of long corridors. In addition to storage, rooms designed to allow maintenance on the building's piping rest on both the east and west sides of the basement, while access to the boilers is made possible through the boiler room to the south.

The cinema has two floors; on the ground floor is the main lobby, cloakroom, two bathrooms, and a screen room (which can be accessed via a hole in the leftmost bathroom), and on the second floor is a projector room housing a broken projector.

For unknown reasons, the player can find a rocking chair inside one of the bathroom stalls. This may be a manner of reminding Murphy Pendleton of his wife rocking their son as a baby.

In the movie theater, there are posters for all the possible movies at Cine-Real in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

There are "Screamers Smashdown" posters in the cinema.

The Church of the Holy Way is the main church of Silent Hill and the Order.

Externally and internally, the Church of the Holy Way is built much like a gothic cathedral, most likely to present the structure with a less menacing air. Outside, above the main entrance, is a set of air raid sirens. Whether these function to warn about shifts between worlds or if they just serve as a nod to the Silent Hill film is unknown.

Within the main hall of the church rests a large pipe organ with the Halo of the Sun inset in the floor before it. A baptismal font, a room containing three confessional booths and pews, as well as a collapsed hallway can be found when exploring the west wing. In the east wing, one encounters a large statue of a robed figure, a trio of paintings, and a hallway leading to a large stained-glass window situated above the pipe organ in the main hall.

Behind the organ is a passageway leading under the church and into the Order's lair.

Lair: The Lair is divided up into three, nearly indistinct sectors, the reason behind which is unknown. There appears to be no method to the floor plan, except to confuse those unfamiliar with the structure. As is typical, most rooms within the Lair are either locked or jammed shut. Those that can be entered are generally used as torture chambers. Ductwork and boilers are abundant, and seepage drains are laid into most areas, indicating either severe leaking or a close proximity to water. Profuse amounts of blood, the result of many of the Order's executions and torture methods, could also explain the drains.

Rooms found within each sector are numbered and each room is prefixed with its sector number followed by its room designation. For example, Room 301 would be Sector Three, Room 1. An oddity worth mentioning is that, as shown on the game map, rooms don't necessarily follow a numerical order.

Located deep within the Lair is a pair of chambers. Both pertain to the pact that the founders of Shepherd's Glen established with their God. The first holds tablets inscribed with a declaration of intent on behalf of the families, each promising to sacrifice a child every 50 years. The second is the chamber where the sacrificed children are brought and, presumably, presented to God.

The Church of the Rebirth is a small church located on an island in the middle of Toluca Lake. The island is quite small, and it has a small boat dock. The island is covered with trees and there is a second, smaller island beside it.

Dargento Cemetery is a cemetery located on Silent Hill's east side. The cemetery is divided up into three different gardens: the Moon Garden, the Sun Garden, and the Janus Garden. Smogs and Lurkers are the only enemies that appear in the cemetery.

It has two entrances, both opening into Sagan St., and though some graves are marked, many are quite dated and either unnamed or their inscriptions have faded with time.

It is located close to Interstate 73 (I-73). The diner's layout is relatively straightforward. The first room is the main dining area with bar stools and tables that line the walls. There is a small jukebox located close to the kitchen area that can be activated by inserting a few coins found inside the cash register. Once inserted, Silent Hill's opening theme will play but not in its entirety.

A daily specials menu hangs near the register which reads:
MONDAY - MEAT
TUESDAY - MEAT
WEDNESDAY - MEAT
THURSDAY - MEAT
FRIDAY - BOILED MEAT
SATURDAY - RAIN
SUNDAY - FOG

The kitchen is small with a large stove in the middle and a supply closet at the back which stays locked until after the Otherworld has been completed.

In its Otherworld form, the diner has changed completely. There are still some pieces of furniture from the Real World scattered around, but almost everything is different. Once Murphy leaves the Otherworld through the closet door, several doors that were previously unlocked are now locked and vice-versa. Behind one of the previously locked doors, there are stairs leading down to a basement. The basement is connected by several small hallways leading to small rooms including a living room, a workplace, and a storage area. One of these rooms houses the first enemy encounter after a brief cutscene. In the very back of the basement, there is an elevator that brings Murphy to the backyard of the diner.

The backyard of the diner is a fenced area with several small cabins. The cabin closest to the elevator has a small kitchen and bedroom. The second cabin seems to have been the scene of some type of murder. When inside the incredibly bloody bathroom, the radio will constantly emit static. This cabin also contains a small TV that can be turned on and off. The last cabin is more of a workshop than a house. The Jail Break arcade game can be played here once the generator outside is activated. Beyond the cabins, there is an overlook. There is a generator near the overlook that must be turned on in order to use the Jail Break machine.

The Family Butcher is a butcher shop located in Central Silent Hill on Toluca Avenue.

The inside is similar to that of a lunch meat stand, complete with freezers and a sink. However, there are carcasses on the floor, hanging meat dripping with blood, and a decapitated bison head on a wall. Sinister events are implied to have occurred in the back, such as human slaughters.

It is a nine-story building, but only five floors are accessible. The Grand Hotel is like all structures within Silent Hill; it has fallen into extreme disrepair for unknown reasons. It is unclear if this disrepair also exists in reality, or if this disrepair only exists in the Fog World. Power has been cut off to the elevator which can be restored by finding a key and solving a puzzle, and most doors are jammed shut. All of the upper floors have begun to collapse in sections, and monsters have taken up residence.

The Greenfield Apartments are located in the northeast area of Central Silent Hill located on Acadia Road.

It is smaller than Riverside Motel; however, it is close to Artaud Theater and a small chapel. It was most likely used to allow people to experience the culture of Silent Hill. The rooms are rather large, allowing a wider range of people to bunk and enjoy the area.

Andy, the owner of Andy's Books, owns apartment 213, the mailbox for which is overstuffed and highlighted in blue.

Green Lion Antiques is Dahlia Gillespie's antique store located in the northeastern corner of Central Silent Hill.

Inside the store are various furnishings, some appearing to be of value. The importance of the store lies in a secret tunnel found in the back wall. The tunnel leads to a small room that has been arranged as a small altar. This altar appears to have been in use by the town's secret cult.

Heaven's Night is a strip club receiving moderate fame in South Vale, located in Silent Hill, Maine. It is three stories high and the front entrance has a long staircase that leads to the front door, which is on the second floor.

The Inn is located in west South Vale, directly across from Rosewater Park. It consists of various motel rooms in one large L-shaped building, facing a central parking lot. Part of the building also has two floors; however, the stairs are blocked at the top. Most of the inn interior is inaccessible in the series; however, the exterior can be explored to some degree.

Koontz Limited is a building located on Koontz Street, across from Toluca Lake Water and Power. It houses at least four boilers, most likely instrumental to the production of steam used to generate power for Central Silent Hill. The building may be larger than it appears, as the largest room on the map is labeled Basement boiler room, but no other stories are indicated or explored.

Konami Burger is a fast food restaurant located on Crichton Street in Central Silent Hill, on the side of the same building as Chinese Art Goods. It has a serving window with a yellow and white awning, and a patio where people can eat.

Monroe Cemetery is a location in Silent Hill that appears in Silent Hill: Downpour. It is located Southeast of St. Maria's Monastery.

It is decorated with statues, memorials, and rows of crypts.

The Overlook Penitentiary is a location in Silent Hill: Homecoming and Silent Hill: Downpour. The penitentiary's location differs between the two games: in Homecoming, it is located in Central Silent Hill; in Downpour, it is located on an island in Toluca Lake, near southeastern Silent Hill.

According to Tomm Hulett, the prison in Homecoming is not the real Overlook, whereas the prison in Downpour is. Its placement in Central Silent Hill in Homecoming is simply a result of the powers of the town.

Built as a two-story prison, Overlook contains two wings for inmate populations. Cell Wing A consists of cells A1-A20, with A1-A4 and A10-A14 located on the first floor, and A5-A8 and A15-A20 on the second. Cell Wing B follows an identical pattern. Two guard rooms are located upstairs, flanking each cell wing, while only one guard room is apparent on the first floor. Also on the first floor is a shower area connecting the two cell wings and solitary confinement, which is inaccessible until power is restored to its lock, located just off of Cell Wing A. As demonstrated by Wheeler in his attempts at helping Alex Shepherd, the penitentiary seems to be wired with many cameras. This is apparent as Wheeler, stationed in a guard room, is aware of Alex's location at all times.

The prison appears to have been abandoned for years and is in a state of intense disrepair, much like the rest of Silent Hill and Shepherd's Glen. From information found in a prisoner's note, it is implied the staff all disappeared suddenly, leaving the prisoners to die. The Order appears to have taken up the use of the facility, possibly using it as a temporary squat for their prisoners. How long they have claimed domain of the structure is unknown.

Many cells have statements written on the walls, however, appear to be done in charcoal rather than spraypaint. These statements include quizzical and even self-analyzing pieces such as: "Somewhere down there is your soul", "My cell has something from everyone else's cell", "Hell here", "Capt. Coatrack shall return", "Nothing is real", "Jafo is watching you", and countless others. Occasionally the player can even locate ones of humor, such as "I like pizza" or "I am the walrus".

The Public Records Office is a building in Central Silent Hill. It houses records regarding the history of people like Dr. Michael Kaufmann and Alessa Gillespie. It is located on Koontz Street in front of Artaud Theater.

The Riverside Motel is one of the many motels in Silent Hill located on Riverside Drive in the western part of Central Silent Hill.

The motel is complete with a laundromat, arcade, and pool. There are several themed suites, apparently named after famous, deceased celebrities (The Rose suite for Marilyn Monroe, The Cleopatra suite for the famous queen, The King suite for Elvis Presley, etc.).

Rosewater Park is a park in South Vale, located on the southern shore of Toluca Lake in Silent Hill.

The park contains various memorials that shed some light on Silent Hill's past. On the east side of the park is a statue in remembrance of Patrick Chester. To the west is a statue dedicated to Jennifer Carroll, and on the promenade is a memorial regarding a disaster, which occurred years past, on the lake.

"Rosewater's Chocolate" boxes can be found in the Sweet Factory Store.

The Silent Hill Historical Society, also known as the Museum of Historical Materials, is a historical museum on the edge of South Vale. It is managed by Frank Anderson.

The building is designed as a small museum, showcasing photographs and artifacts of Silent Hill's past. Many photos hang on the walls of the museum, some of which show landmarks of the once-famous town. Some pieces also refer to the dark practices that have taken place within Silent Hill.

Much of the building is in shambles during James's visit; display cases are shattered, doors pulled from their hinges and a wall broken down. Some of the museum's pictures have also been touched by the effects of the Otherworld, as they depict horrific scenes and disturbing figures.

One of them, "Misty day, remains of the Judgment", features Pyramid Head. It is unknown if this painting is actually real, or just a result of James's subconsciousness interacting with the Otherworld and manifesting the painting. In Silent Hill: The Arcade, the painting has changed into another painting with Pyramid Head in a different location, suggesting that the Otherworld had corrupted the painting in different ways.

Silent Hill Police Station - The headquarters of the Silent Hill police force. It is here they ran their ultimately ineffective war on Order-related drug trafficking. It is located on the corner of Crichton and Sagan.

The Silent Hill Town Center is a building in Central Silent Hill on Simmons Street located in the northeast corner of the map in Silent Hill, next to the Green Lion Antiques store.

The building is a two-story shopping mall. The interior contains stores that are mostly closed, escalators, and other things commonly found in an ordinary mall.

Stores
Vestal Gigastore - This store has the large television displays on the ground level.
Just Cats - This store is on the lower level, on the opposite side as the television displays.
Hector Saxe - This is also on the lower level, next to Vestal Gigastore.
Cospa - This is on the upper level, past the jewelry shop.
Kazanian Jewelry - A jewelry shop. It also reappears later in Nowhere.
The Museum Watch - This store is on the left when Harry goes to the second level.
Mellow Gates Gun Shop - This is on the ground level

St. Maria's Monastery, also known as St. Maria's Institute, is a location in Silent Hill that appears in Silent Hill: Downpour and is found on the west side of Chastain Heights.

The building serves as both a place of worship and an overnight school for young children, complete with a theater for children to perform plays. In memos throughout the journey in the monastery, it is revealed that many of the children were neurotypical and autistic, and the hospital was meant to "cure" them of these conditions. These treatments were often harmful and abusive, ending in injury or death. It also has a medical ward which includes a morgue and an operating room.

Toluca Graveyard is located to the east of South Vale Silent Hill, north of which is Toluca Lake.

The graveyard is very small, with only a few graves and a small section overlooking Toluca Lake. It is surrounded by many trees and covered in fog. It is one of two ways to get to the town from the observation deck (the other being Nathan Avenue, the main road, which is blocked). The graveyard contains a small mausoleum and is very quiet.

Though its precise size is unknown, Toluca Lake must be large enough to accommodate the construction of two mid-sized towns upon its shores, with those towns being a boat-ride apart from each other. Numerous hills encompass it, suggesting it may rest in a valley. In addition to hills, rivers and swaths of pine forest are also shown to be plentiful.

With the influx of visitors to the area over time, accidents, in particular, boating accidents, were an inevitability.

At some point in time, 67 people died of illness and "sleep beneath the lake".
In November 1918, a ship named Little Baroness goes missing. Its fate is unknown.
With the closing of the area coal mines in 1939, coupled with an increase in tourism, a rather prolific rash of boating accidents occurs on the lake.
In 1991, Walter Sullivan apparently drowned Sharon Blake in the lake.
In 1993, a freak thunderstorm occurred and caused a school bus to be stuck in Toluca River. Details on this can be found in a newspaper article.

The Toluca Lake Offices is a building in Central Silent Hill. As its name states, the building houses a number of offices (albeit for reasons unknown) and has been left abandoned and deteriorating. It seems that nature has begun the process of reclaiming the offices' foundation, as various spots are overgrown with grasses and its walls are eroding away. Its exact location is adjacent to the Toluca Lake Water and Power building.

Toluca Lake Water and Power is a location near the intersections of Koontz and Simmons Street. A power plant, Water and Power provide energy to most of Central Silent Hill.

A two-story power-generating facility, Toluca Lake Water and Power use a three-station setup, with Station A controlling the flow of water into the system, Station B controlling boiler operation, and Station C controlling the flow of steam to a turbine system. Station A can be found on the first floor, while Stations B and C are on the second. In addition to the three-station control system, large amounts of power-regulating equipment can be seen.

Toluca Prison, previously known as Toluca Prison Camp, is a defunct prison in Silent Hill, Maine. There is an older "Silent Hill Prison" mentioned in the Book of Lost Memories, however, it is unclear if this is a separate prison.

Toluca Prison was originally constructed as Toluca Prison Camp in 1862 and was used to house American Civil War POWs. Toluca Prison Camp was later converted into Toluca Prison, a normal prison, in 1866, around the time of Past Life (immediately after the end of the war). It was then closed in the early 1900s for unknown reasons, but possibly due to water damage and constant flooding as it was built next to Toluca Lake.

The exact location of the prison was on the grounds of the modern-day Silent Hill Historical Society, as stated in the Book of Lost Memories. James Sunderland enters the prison through tunnels extending to the museum, but the prison front doors are the same as the museum doors (old wooden doors with dirty glass, which are not suitable for a prison-like establishment) and earth surface can be seen through them, so descending was probably a creation of James's mind.

The prison consists of three main sections, separated by two long corridors.

The leftmost section was used as the civilian side of the prison and includes the visiting rooms, offices and main entrance.

The central section of the prison consists of mainly cells and the showers and other inmate essentials. The cells are arranged in four rows, two on the north end and two on the south. Each row has ten cells, though only some of the cells can be entered. It seems that the prison has a max capacity of 40 prisoners.

The rightmost section is the prison courtyard. Under the effects of the Otherworld, the courtyard is devoid of scenery, save for the gallows in the center that is used to solve a puzzle.

The prison is in a state of dilapidation upon James's entrance, and most of the prison grounds have been damaged. The prison appears to be underground and much of its structure appears to have eroded and retained water damage. There are no signs of life, except for monsters, although notes and memos of its past inhabitants have remained.

The Water Prison is a panopticon located somewhere on Toluca Lake; its precise location is unknown.

The moving turret system was probably part of the water prison's original features before the Order began to use it and consists of three concrete cylinders on top of one another that can move independently of each other. The Order used this system to dispose of corpses in rooms and light rooms using the holes in the floor.

It is seen to the outside world as simply a disused water treatment facility shaped like a giant concrete cylinder close to the Wish House Orphanage. However, inside it is a brutal prison used as a punishment to the orphans who disobey or are simply unlucky — Walter Sullivan frequently mentions in his diary of being put in the prison despite doing "good reading".

It is unknown how long the Order has been using the facility as a prison for the orphans, but given how effective the prison is at disposing of corpses through a sophisticated turning turret system, it may have been used by the Order for a number of years before Walter Sullivan's time there.

Symbolism: The reason the water prison is included in Henry's journey is that it is another location that played a very important part in Walter's life, albeit a very negative one. All of the locations visited by Henry are connected to Walter, implying the theory that Henry is indeed just a pawn in Walter's ultimate plan to open the door to his "mother", and Henry just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Similar to Silent Hill, Henry visits Walter's memories and fantasies, as Harry Mason visits Alessa Gillespie's memories.

The Wood Side has two entrances, west and east, and has a total of three floors.

Outside of the building is the garbage chute, which is closed.

First floor
The entrance to the west hall, this floor contains the main stairway to the other levels and the courtyard.

Courtyard
The courtyard houses the once beautiful Wood Side swimming pool: elevated higher than ground level, surrounded by a fence, and full of plastic chairs and umbrellas. Now empty, the pool houses three Lying Figures and a baby stroller holding the snake coin. The pool is adjacent to several other apartments: 101-104.

East first floor
Here there are three large apartments, 105-107, but none of them can be entered.

Second floor
This floor houses the second-floor apartments, whose numbers are in the 200s (201-212).

Laundry room
The public laundry room on the second floor holds a garbage chute that jammed when it was overfilled.

Room 202
Room 202, left of the west hall's second-floor staircase entrance, is home to a large number of bug cages. Inside the bedroom are a large mass of fluttering moths and the bodies of dead butterflies lying on the bed. Adjacent to the bed is a large hole oozing with an unknown, green slime.

Fire Escape
Apparently knocked down when the Blue Creek Apartments were built, the fire escape now serves as a way for James to enter the Blue Creek Apartments through an adjacent window.

Third floor
This floor houses the third-floor apartments, whose numbers are in the 300s (301-309).

Heavy breathing can be heard on the third floor of Wood Side Apartments as if the building is alive.

Outside room 102, an arrow and the words "To Hell!" are written apparently in blood, pointing towards the north.

There is a painting of a chapel hanging in room 208. It may be one of the Order's chapels, perhaps the Chapel Heather Mason must run through in Silent Hill 3. It should also be noted it looks similar to the Church of the Holy Way from Silent Hill: Homecoming. The painting of the cathedral appears to be based on a processed photo of St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague.

While in the bathroom of room 210, there is a random chance of hearing a faucet being turned periodically, but without the sound of water to accompany it.

The green substance found in the hole in room 202 is strikingly similar to the green substance found in the drain in Brookhaven Hospital. These are the only two times a green substance such as that is seen in the series.

During the visit of Alex Shepherd, Central Silent Hill manifested some changes.

The shoreline of Toluca Lake has significantly receded inland on the east side.
The Silent Hill Town Center has been replaced by Dargento Cemetery.
Sagan Street has been divided in half by buildings so that the western half is now a cul-de-sac.
Koontz Street is significantly shorter and ends perpendicular to Canyon Street.
The Artaud Theater, Acadia Road, the Greenfield Apartments and the Public Records no longer exist as the land on which they were on is now underwater.
In place of the Cafe Sun and Green Pharmacy are Toluca Lake Water and Power and Koontz Limited.
The northern-most half of Wein Street was integrated into east Sagan Street while the southern half is completely absent along with the buildings east of it, including the Artaud Theater.
Romantic Journey, The Mirage, Grand Master Book Store, Tea Room, and DYNA were replaced by an illusion of Overlook Penitentiary.

The most prominent landmark is St. Maria's Monastery, where Murphy Pendleton is directed to visit upon receiving a letter from Howard Blackwood after escaping the Centennial Building's Otherworld. Other notable locations in the area include the Chastain Heights Cinema, Monroe Cemetery, the Hardware Store, the Thrift Store, and a house where a grisly murder took place.

Lamon St.: Chastain Heights Cinema

Masterston St, Preston Ave., Ketchum St, King Ave. All unnamed buildings.

Port District is an area in Silent Hill that Murphy Pendleton visits in Silent Hill: Downpour. It consists of the area north of Pleasant River and can be accessed by lowering the bridge on King Avenue.

Murphy can find the boat that Bobby Ricks planned to use in order to escape the town here. Despite its size, very little of the area can be explored.

South Vale is the southern counterpart to Paleville. South Vale is a large forested and mountainous region with rivers on the south side of Toluca Lake. A national road, County Road 73, crosses it from southeast to northwest and links South Vale with the northern half of the town of Silent Hill, as well as with nearby towns, including Pleasant River.

South Vale contains various landmarks, such as an old graveyard with a small chapel, an Observation Deck with a panoramic view of Toluca Lake, and a few farms. Due to being a mountainous region, various roads and streets have tunnels, such as County Road 73, Rendell Street and Saul Street. South Vale is separated from Paleville at the northwest by rivers, however, the actual borders of the region are still unknown.
