Creatures that live in the Mist
Mar. 12th, 2018 10:47 amThe Arachni-Lobster is a large predator, which kills its victims by cutting them in half in its claws or biting their heads off.
The Arachni-Lobster is roughly two stories tall, with fleshy, not entirely insectile skin. The base of its slouched torso stands on six arthropod-like legs, while the topside sports a pair of much larger, pincer-tipped arms which it holds to its chest like an enormous mantis. Its head seems to consist of little more than an enormous, vertebrate-style maw lined with needle-like teeth, with the top of its cranium arching over the back.
The creature's exact size is never specified, but it has six massive legs. The Behemoth's legs have hundreds of Scorpion-Flies attached to them, and slaty-grey skin mottled in places too dark brown, but apart from that, the creature is mostly unseen.
Its weight is sufficient to leave footprints the size of large SUVs in solid concrete.
The Behemoth has six double-jointed legs, feet about 18 feet tall, hundreds of multiple-jointed appendages on its underside, and tentacles above its head.
From what can be seen, these creatures look much like Gray Widowers, except they are each about the size of a car. It is likely that they are simply a more mature stage in the Gray Widowers' life cycle.
Gray Widowers are deadly, spider-like predators, each about the size of a dog, which have the ability to produce corrosive spiderwebs that can burn through materials like clothing and flesh.
The Gray Widowers are greyish with eight spiny legs, long, thin spines, a wasp-like abdomen, four eyes, a spiny, insect-like thorax, and a skull-like head. They also produce vocal sounds ranging from low, vibrational growls to high, piercing shrieks.
They can produce corrosive web strands and fire them as projectiles, but they can also lay eggs in living hosts. These eggs will appear as thousands of bulging boils on the host's skin, which each burst open after about a day to release the new hatchlings. The hatchlings, Gray Widowletts, appear identical to the adults, except they are a brownish color and the size of terrestrial spiders.
The Green Fly is described as having long, clear wings and resembling a twisted and deformed green dragonfly. It only appeared in the novella and was not present in the film.
The Killer Kite is described as a "nightmarish, half-seen living kite" through the mist. It is depicted as having three webbed appendages tapering into tendrils which make up its body, giving it a resemblance to a kite or a crucifix. It is also a green color.
- Leeches from the mist tend to travel in swarms of hundreds rather than alone
- The Leeches seem similar to the swarms of Flying Leechs that Pennywise assumed as one of his forms he used to kill Patrick Hockstetter with in Stephen King's novel, It.
- It is assumed that The Leeches were attracted to that area of the hospital due to the amount of blood smeared over the floors and the area is occupied by mist
The Pterobuzzards have dark-pinkish skin, pale-grey eyes, double-jointed legs and four pterodactyl-like wings (two in place of arms, two on their backs).
They swarm after the Scorpion Flies to eat them.
The shadow creature appears to be made out of pure shadow, with few discernible features other than a vaguely human-like form. It makes sounds similar to screeching and growling, and appears to have the ability to teleport. Its method of killing involves latching onto a victim's face and "infecting" them with shadow, killing the victim. Its appearance resembles that of a phantom.
Scorpion-Flies are plump, flying creatures, about 2-4 feet long and the prey of the Pterobuzzards. They are also nocturnal creatures, attracted to light at night, and living in what appear to be hives during the day.
The Scorpion-Flies have hard, purple, segmented shells and resemble a cross between a wasp and a scorpion. Their stingers also contain a neurotoxin which causes massive swelling and suffocation within minutes.
The Tentacles from Planet X physically resemble those of a very large squid or octopus, but they have mouths in place of suckers which they use to consume prey as they envelop it.
In addition to the mouths and resemblance to squid tentacles, the Tentacles from Planet X also have claws lining their sides and a slit-like mouth near the tip. They also seem to be able to emit high, shrieking sounds from their mouths, retract their mouths and claws into their flesh and seem to be a shade of both grey and pink.
When a severed tentacle finally dies, it decomposes into a sizzling, black liquid in seconds.
